Impetigo and Defense Soap
One of the greater health risks on the mat for combat athletes is Impetigo, a highly contagious bacterial skin infection.
According to www.webmd.com, Impetigo can appear anywhere on the body, but usually attacks exposed areas, which makes the condition so dangerous. The official site of the Georgia High School Association (ghsa.net) tells us that there are two types of Impetigo – bullous and nonbullous. Bullous Impetigo appears as damp, red skin that resembles a burn that develops into a blister, filled with a clear or yellow fluid. The more-common nonbullous Impetigo presents with a yellow honey-colored crust over a red base.
Impetigo appears in plaques anywhere from dime- to quarter-size. The most highly-visable places where Impetigo is seen are on the face (especially around the nose and mouth), on arms and on legs.
In a worse-case scenario, Impetigo becomes ecthyma, a deeper form of the disease that, if left untreated, may cause permanent scars and pigment changes. In the worst-case scenario, Impetigo can cause post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis, a severe kidney disease that happens in less than 1 percent of strep infection cases, and mainly in children.
When looking for products to combat Impetigo, some of the best are right here at wrestlershop.com. Take, for instance, Defense Soap™ Super Shield Plus Laundry Treatment, a treatment which not only guards fabrics against Impetigo, but also MRSA, Ringworm, staph infection and Herpes. And it can be used with regular detergent to remove and keep away growth of bacteria, mold and fungi. This form of prevention/blocking is particularly important, since most people get Impetigo from physical contact with someone who has it, or from sharing clothes, bedding, towels or other objects.
